Luma vs Tunyt for Indian Communities

Luma vs Tunyt for communities in India: UPI at checkout, payouts in rupees, QR check-in, and which one fits a college or city club.

Luma is a well-known home for community events: a clean page, a calendar, a guest list. A lot of Indian group chats still use it because someone in the group saw it abroad. Tunyt is built for events in India: UPI at checkout, payouts in rupees, and a QR code your volunteer can scan at the gate.

This is not a feature matrix with invented prices. Luma’s plan and fees are whatever their site says today — read that page before you migrate a community. Below is the decision that actually matters if your people are in India.

The wider fee questions are in best event ticketing platforms in India (2026).

What a community in India needs from the tool

A weekly city club and a college society do not need a conference app. They need:

  • A page someone can open on a phone and understand in ten seconds.
  • A way to say “I’m coming” that does not become a spreadsheet.
  • If you charge: UPI, a receipt, and the money back in an Indian account.
  • At the door: one ticket each, scanned once.
  • Afterward: the list of people who came, so next month’s message is not a cold post.

If a tool only does the pretty page, you will rebuild the rest in WhatsApp.

Payments and payouts

Ask Luma: can a guest pay with UPI, and can you withdraw in INR to an Indian bank account, on a timeline you can explain to a treasurer? If the answer is “not really” or “through a workaround,” do not put a paid college fest on it. Free RSVPs are a different question.

On Tunyt: paid tickets are collected through Razorpay, which includes UPI. The default platform fee is 2.5% of the ticket face. The gateway fee also defaults to 2.5%. GST at 18% applies to the platform fee, not to the whole ticket. You choose, per ticket type, whether the host or the buyer bears the fees. Free events are not charged a platform fee. Payouts are in rupees. Confirm the schedule in your own payout settings before you promise a date to a sponsor.

The step-by-step of selling is how to sell event tickets online in India.

Check-in

Both kinds of products talk about guest lists. The test is physical. Stand at the gate with the phone you will actually use.

  • Does each person have their own code?
  • Does a second scan of the same code fail?
  • Can a second volunteer scan at the same time?

That behaviour is what Tunyt’s QR check-in is for. The setup is in QR code tickets and event check-in. If you are only hosting a 12-person dinner, a list on a phone is enough and the scan matters less. If you are hosting a fest gate, it matters more than the typeface on the invite.

Which one to pick

Lean Luma when the event is free or the audience already lives there, people are fine with whatever checkout it offers, and you are not promising an Indian payout to a college account.

Lean Tunyt when any of these are true:

  • Guests will pay with UPI.
  • A treasurer needs INR in an Indian account.
  • You are selling more than one tier, taking a team registration, or asking custom questions (college, size, in-game ID).
  • Someone with a phone must scan people in.

You can still post the link in the same WhatsApp groups. The page does not care which app shared it. The promotion plan is Instagram and WhatsApp without ads.

Do not migrate on a poster week

If your fest is ten days away, do not move a half-sold Luma event onto a new tool unless you can refund and reissue every ticket. Pick the platform before the first paid seat. Run one test purchase. Scan it. Then announce.
